Health and safety

SCCL’s track record in successfully constructing, establishing operating the green-field Al Jalamid phosphate mine and the construction and early mining Al Khabra mine are indicative of SCCL’s ability and commitment to meeting its contractual obligations. This track record reflects SCCL’s commitment to training its personnel, both Saudi and TCN employees to ensure best mining practices tailored to prevailing conditions and employee experience while stressing safety and continuous improvement.

Further to our commitment in HSE, SCCL achieved the Best Contractor Award for the year 2018 / 2019 from MPC Al Jalamid. SCCL’s commitment was further noted with a personal thanks from the President of MPC for our involvement in the successful DuPont audit initiative ran by MPC to strengthen their already strong Health Safety and Welfare standards. SCCL’s own initiatives namely the ‘Traffic Light System” (a system designed to ensure that all vehicles were fit for purpose) and the “Training Notice Alert” system (a system designed to give easily understood Health, Safety and Welfare information to the workers) were well received by MPC during the aforementioned DuPont audit.

SCCL has recently engaged with the world respected Bureau Veritas certification body to achieve ISO 45001, 14001 and 9001. Certification is expected in 2020. These certifications will bring together our already strong health and safety, welfare, environmental and quality management standards, into one Integrated Management System for the entire company and processes within it. Our non-lost time injury hours now exceed beyond 3.5 million as of the end of 2019.
